POS Malaysia (postal delivery service in Malaysia) on November 1, 2015 launched 10,000 stamps featuring the 11th president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, at the Ipoh Town Hall
The stamps are a tribute to the revered scientist turned politician who died in July at 83.
The first commemorative stamps were released in India on October 15, in conjunction with Abdul Kalam’s birthday,” said V. Ponraj, scientific adviser to the late Abdul Kalam.
Ponraj said in his lifetime, Abdul Kalam had envisioned and called for humanity to act towards the mutual goal of achieving peace by setting aside religious, political and other differences.
“He was also a proponent of sustainable development, reminding us to be mindful of the way we manage our resources on this planet,” he said.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir launched the stamps. Indian High Commissioner T. S Tirumurti was also present at the launch organised by Pos Malaysia and the Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce.
The stamps are available at prices starting at RM5 per piece up to RM1,000 for an album. – November 1, 2015.
